About

About Cody & Sioux, Modern Western Store The appeal of western clothing, whether a fringed vest, turquoise belt, silver ring, boho vest, embroidered sugar skull cowboy boots or leather furniture laced with cowhide lingers long after the 10-day cowtown frenzy of the Calgary Stampede. At Cody and Sioux we have intertwined the appeal of this genre, with a more modern take that is widely observed at the iconic Calgary Stampede for a Mod West feel. We believe a little West lives in all of us, and the goods of our shop are meant to play to those connections. Cody & Sioux is a destination shop featuring the cutting edge of mainstream Mod West clothing well as a curated selection of artist and artisan work. The three elements of western design: silver, leather and turquoise are a focal point of the store, and represented in our clothing lines – both men and women’s and home accessories. In addition, you’ll find a selection of the most unique furniture pieces of North American, all with a western flair, bookending our clothing and accessories lines. We advocate and go to bat for items that are well-crafted, timeless and have an enduring sense of West, in their craftsmanship, design and material. It’s highly modern but appreciative of our western heritage, and laced with Native American influences. We also boast one of the most unique collection of furniture in North America, all with western undertones. We search out items that are well-crafted, timeless and have an enduring sense of West in their craftsmanship, design and material. We seek styles that are modern, but appreciative of our western heritage and laced with Native American influences. Our unique shop is in the heart of Inglewood, Calgary – a neighbourhood which fittingly bears the distinction of being “cow town’s” oldest, having been established as Fort Calgary in 1875. Today it is a shopping, arts and music mecca. In 2014, it was named Canada’s greatest neighbourhood. At Cody & Sioux, we invite you to embrace your own style of West. Whatever it may be that embodies the idea of West for you in a personal way. Wide open space. Independence. Sustainability. Individualism. Character. Grit. We’ll leave it up to you to find it within you. Be stubborn about it. Be meticulous. Savor it and live it. Wear it close to your heart, like a necklace, a big ’ole bold and beautiful squash-blossom piece of turquoise. Go ahead and let it save your soul. At the helm of Cody & Sioux are Ingrid Schulz and her daughter, Alex Callaghan.
  • “I felt like when I came to the city, I observed people increasingly disconnected from the West, or at least the West I know and love,” says Ingrid. “All you saw were people in bad checkered shirts and misshaped hats, losing ground and connection to an authentic West. It seemed diluted and soulless, and it made me sad. We wanted to affect change and re-introduce the West to the city again. Maybe even reinvent it, with a modern twist. It’s more than clothing, but that’s the conduit we’ve chosen to invite people to embrace their own style of West. Beneath the surface, West is really about individuality, a life outdoors, an appreciation for wide open spaces, and of course, character and grit. If you live in the West, you should be proud to fly the flag for this lifestyle, and protect and honor it.”
With 20 years of experience building and managing the western riding magazine, Western Horse Review, from the ground up to a national publication of over 50,000 readers, Ingrid was up for the challenge of bringing the True West home to Calgary, with the seed idea of a new project.
  • When Alex Callaghan isn’t buying for the store or completing her marketing degree, you’ll find her creating artwork for her own local YYC clothing company, Ragweed Clothing (@ragweedclothing on Instagram). Growing-up in a small-town community surrounded by horses and open spaces, her love of the country and a life outdoors blossomed. She’s a bonafide ranch girl, with a passion for pairing vintage West with modern styles. Her reputation gives her an edge in sourcing out distinct and original pieces, especially on all things mod-West. As a result, you’ll see everything from Californian boho inspired dresses, to traditional Texan design, a variety of cheeky tagline tees, classic West pieces and exclusive home decor.
Mission Statement To reawaken a love for the West, and grow it through finely curated fashion and home décor. To ADVOCATE for the West and steward a lifestyle that embodies individualism, character, and grit and time spent outdoors.
